How do payment plans work for UX Academy?
We offer three payment options for UX Academy:
- Upfront payment plan
- Monthly payment plans through Designlab
- Financing (loan) options serviced by Climb Credit
Read on for more details about each payment plan option, and feel free to reach out to Admissions at admissions@designlab.com with any questions!
Upfront payment
This is the lowest-cost payment option as it doesn't include any interest or servicing fees. You'll have the opportunity to choose this option when completing the enrollment form after being accepted into UX Academy. We accept upfront payments via credit card, debit card, or PayPal.
Here's how tuition and upfront payments break down if you apply directly to UX Academy:
- USD $7,749 total
- - $399 enrollment deposit charged at the time of enrollment (to save your spot in the UX Academy cohort)
- = $7,350 charged on the start date of UX Academy
Here's how tuition and upfront payments break down if you take Foundations first:
- USD $7,749 total
- - $500 UX Academy Foundations tuition credit
- - $399 enrollment deposit charged at the time of enrollment (to save your spot in the UX Academy cohort)
- = $6,850 charged on the start date of UX Academy
Monthly payment plans
The monthly payment plans offered through Designlab don't involve any interest, but they do have a $400 servicing fee. We accept monthly payments via credit card or debit card.
Our standard monthly payment plan is a 6-month payment plan. You'll be able to select this option when you fill out the enrollment form, after being accepted into UX Academy.
We also offer a 10-month payment plan. If you'd like to utilize the 10-month payment plan, please reach out to the Admissions Team in advance of the course and we can help set it up for you.
Here's how tuition and monthly payments break down if you apply directly to UX Academy:
- $7,749 tuition + $400 servicing fee = USD $8,149 total
- - $399 enrollment deposit charged at the time of enrollment (to save your spot in the UX Academy cohort)
- = $7,750 split across 6 or 10 installments:
- $1,292/mo for 6 months, OR
- $775/mo for 10 months
Here's how tuition and monthly payments break down if you take Foundations first:
- $7,749 tuition + $400 servicing fee = USD $8,149 total
- - $500 UX Academy Foundations tuition credit
- - $399 enrollment deposit charged at the time of enrollment (to save your spot in the UX Academy cohort)
- = $6,850 split across 6 or 10 installments:
- $1,208/mo for 6 months, OR
- $725/mo for 10 months
Financing (loan) options serviced by Climb Credit
Taking out a loan through our financing partner, Climb Credit, is the lowest monthly cost option. The interest rate for your loan will be based on your FICO score and the rate will be fixed for the duration of the loan. Financing through Climb Credit requires a US address or US-based co-signer, and all applicants who fulfill this requirement are guaranteed approval.
You'll be able to select Climb as your payment option when you fill out the enrollment form, after being accepted into UX Academy. You'll also need to complete the loan application process before the start of your course.
Climb allows you to set up your loan repayments over anywhere from 6–36 months, and they offer both interest-only and fully-deferred repayment options:
- Interest-only: Pay only the interest on your loan during the first 6 months and start making larger payments after that.
- Fully-deferred: Pay as little as $0 for the first 6 months and start making payments after that.
Here's how your tuition and estimated Climb payments would break down if you apply directly to UX Academy:
- $7,749 tuition + interest ≈ USD $8,091 – $9,677 total
- Loan amount: $7,749 tuition - $399* enrollment deposit = $7,350 loan principal
- Estimated payments: ~ $218 – $253/month, depending on the repayment options you select
Here's how your tuition and estimated Climb payments would break down if you take Foundations first:
- $7,749 total tuition + interest ≈ USD $8,091 – $9,677 total
- Loan amount: $7,749 tuition - $500 UX Academy Foundations tuition credit - $399* enrollment deposit = $6,850 loan principal
- Estimated payments: ~ $218 – $253/month, depending on the repayment options you select
*Some Climb Credit loans require a higher course deposit of $500. In these instances, you'll be charged an additional $101 on top of the standard $399 course deposit to secure your spot in the UX Academy cohort. This additional amount will reduce your loan balance, ensuring that your total course tuition remains the same.

Important Notes
Payment plan eligibility: Eligibility for a UX Academy monthly payment plan is dependent upon on-time payment of your Foundations tuition, if you enrolled in this prerequisite course.
Payments via PayPal: If you'd like to pay by PayPal, please reach out to the Designlab team before the launch date to confirm. You can refer to this article for information about how to pay via PayPal.
Enrollment deposit: All admitted students must pay the refundable $399 enrollment deposit to save their spot in the program, regardless of which payment plan option they select.
Combining payment plan options: It's not possible to choose more than one payment plan option (i.e. a partial up-front payment and Climb Credit).
Currency and exchange rate: All tuition information is provided in USD. Tuition is charged in USD and subject to any currency exchange rates or foreign banking transaction fees.

How does the UX Academy Foundations tuition credit work?
The UX Academy Foundations tuition is USD $499, charged on the start date of the course. Students who complete UX Academy Foundations and continue on to the UX Academy bootcamp program will automatically receive a $500 credit toward their UX Academy tuition.
Students can join any UX Academy cohort they choose (after being accepted); however, to have their tuition credit applied, they must enroll in a cohort that starts within 7 months of their UX Academy Foundations start date. For example, a student who enrolls in the January cohort of UX Academy Foundations can apply their credit up until the August start date cohort of UX Academy. Beyond that point, the $500 tuition credit will be forfeited, but they can still join UX Academy!
How does the enrollment deposit work?
Once you're accepted into UX Academy, you'll pay a $399 deposit as part of the enrollment process to save your spot in the program. The $399 deposit goes toward the total cost of the UX Academy tuition. The remaining balance can be paid via any of our payment options.
Do you offer student discounts?
Yes, if you’re enrolled in a degree-granting program, you’re eligible for the following discounts on our courses:
- UX Academy Foundations: $25 discount
- UX Academy: $200 discount

Do you offer scholarships for UX Academy?
Yes, Designlab’s Diversify Design scholarship aims to foster equity and diverse representation in the design industry by providing education and professional support to aspiring designers from underrepresented groups, including BIPOC, AAPI, women, LGBTQ+, people with disabilities, and others from historically disadvantaged communities. Can I use my outside scholarship or funding to pay for UX Academy?
If you have access to outside scholarships, grants, loans, or other funding sources, we'd love to help in any way we can so that you'll be able to use them to pay for your course.
While every situation is unique, the most important thing to know is that you should check with the organization or institution that provides the funding to see if it can be applied toward your UX Academy course.
Here are a few additional pieces of information that might help you in your communications:
- Designlab is licensed in the State of California by the Bureau for Private and Postsecondary Education (BPPE). You can find our licensing information on the BPPE's website.
- Designlab is not accredited in the same way as a traditional college or university degree program, so US federal sources of funding (ex. Pell grants, federal student loans) can't be used toward your tuition.
- Once you've been accepted into UX Academy and enrolled in a cohort, we'll send you a Student Agreement that includes all of the details of your course. This agreement might be useful to show to the funding organization/institution to verify any aspects of the educational program.

Does Designlab accept the GI Bill to cover tuition costs?
At the moment Designlab is not eligible to accept the GI Bill to cover tuition costs. However, we do offer discounts for veterans!
- $30 discount on our short courses
- $200 discount on UX Academy
To request the discount, please email us at admissions@designlab.com and provide any form of Military ID. This discount does extend to spouses of veterans as well.
How do payment plans work for UX Academy Foundations?
Yes! We offer a 2-part payment plan for UX Academy Foundations.
The first 50% of the tuition is charged on the course launch day, and the remaining 50% will be charged 4 weeks later.
To set up a 2-part payment plan, please do the following:
- Enroll in UX Academy Foundations.
- Reply to your enrollment confirmation email and ask for a payment plan.

Notes:
- At this time it's not possible to set up a custom payment plan or to combine discounts and payment plans.
- You must make both payments on time during your short course. Failure to pay on time when using a 2-part payment plan in UX Academy Foundations will make you ineligible to use a Designlab monthly payment plan for UX Academy.
