How can I get up to speed on design software for UX Academy?

Newcomers to design are often a bit afraid of design software. There’s a lot of it out there, it can be confusing, occasionally complex, and hard to know where to start.

Our first tip is to begin with a simple digital design package like Sketch or Figma. For more about our recommended tools, check out this article. Also, take a look at our blog post about the history of design software, which might help to demystify things a bit.

An important thing to remember is that design is not software—software is simply a tool for executing a design idea that you’ve developed. Learning to problem-solve and think like a designer is the real challenge. Any software know-how you lack is often just a Google search away!

Finally, remember that as you work through any of our courses, your mentor may be available to help with specific questions you have about design tools or how to accomplish specific tasks.
